Position Description:

Keystone Human Services – Mental Health Services is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to join our mission in working together to serve the community and creating an environment where all people are able to grow, make choices and be valued and contributing members of society.

The Peer Support Specialist performs services by providing education, support and opportunities for adults with mental illness so they are able to direct their own recovery. This position provides assistance with skill development, resources awareness and utilization and the development of true community integration.

Responsibilities Include:

Meet with individuals regularly in community settings to assist in their personal recovery journey through setting goals and implementing service plans
Assist individuals with accessing and sustaining self-help (mutual support) groups
Meet with groups to facilitate group discussions and provide education
Assist individuals in using recovery tools, such as WRAPS, Psychiatric Advance Directives and other tools which may assist individuals in making informed choices and being a partner in their mental health recovery
Share personal experiences to teach people about the mental health system and how recovery is possible
Role model the use of coping skills and methods of maintaining health and wellness in the community
Work in conjunction with service providers to assist people in services in building social and personal skills that will enhance their acquisition of valued roles in the community

Job Requirements:

High School Graduate or equivalent
Certification in Peer Support
Experience with the mental health system
Certified Peer Support Specialist or able to acquire and maintain certification per OMHSAS regulation
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Successful completion of the pre-employment process, including criminal record check and MVR
Valid driver’s license and daily access to a properly insured and maintained vehicle
