Position Description:

An External Advocate is an independent advocate who provides assistance and support to adult individuals receiving services at a state-operated mental health facility. The advocate helps individuals and their families with questions, concerns, and complaints regarding the hospital care and treatment and ensures the fundamental rights of the individuals receiving services. The External Advocate is an entry level position. We are looking to hire one part-time position that is located at Danville State Hospital, Danville, PA.

Pay rate starting at: $21.00/hour

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have advocacy experience, knowledge about the PA mental health system, reporting, strong organizational and data entry skills. A bachelor’s degree in a Human Service field or a combination of education and 2 years experience in a Human Service field, Mental Health, is required. Candidates must pass a background check. Other Qualifications include:

  • Proven ability to work independently and utilize sound judgement
  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications preferred
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
