Position Description:

The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) will contribute in a peer support capacity to facilitate recovery and enhance wellness.  The CPS will serve as a role model for recovery for both staff and peers, and will partner with peers in developing recovery tools and building support networks.

Philhaven Corporate offices are located in Mt. Gretna, PA and the Peer Support office is located in Harrisburg, PA.

Job Requirements:

  • A self-identified mental health consumer who has received or is receiving state priority group services as defined in MH Bulletin OMH-94-04, Serious Mental Illness: Adult Priority Group.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Certification as a Peer Support Specialist.
  • A minimum of 12 months of paid or volunteer experience within a 3 year period.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience in navigating the mental health system.  (i.e. crisis services, vocational rehabilitation, recreational activities, and human services, etc.)
  • A history of coping with own mental health issues and maintenance of own recovery.
  • A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and qualifies for Philhaven driving privileges. Access to a private vehicle.
  • Ability to demonstrate adequate written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of and ability in the care and support of individuals in a specific age group (adults and older adults) as assigned is required, including consideration of the special needs and behaviors of that age group.  If more than one age group is served, knowledge and ability specific to each age group is required.
  • Basic computer skills including email, Word, and internet.
